| Second Quarter, 1999Conference 99 Opening this year in Mesa Arizona at the Holiday Inn and Suites, over 140 persons representing over 95 companies attended. Most contractors and/or their estimators came from the East coast however, some also came from Hawaii, Canada, and Australia. In addition, representatives were here from American Software, Dexter+Chaney, Sellect, Inc., Trade Service Corporation and Tool Watch. Following a pool-side welcoming reception, Thursday found all at the morning opening session followed by the choice of three different parallel break-outs as well as the "hands on" computer lab. Friday found the break-outs continuing with all back together for the Conference closing that afternoon. Of special interest was Team McCormicks ZR1 Corvette which just happened to be parked in the lobby of the Hotel. Seems like fast cars brings out the "red neck" in all as everyone seemed to have a story about what they used to race, what they race now, or what they wanted to race. However.... Setup different from last year, Conference 99 featured about eleven different and interesting break-outs. Each break-out ran about one and one-half hour and included: 1) PC Scale for Windows 11) McCormick Software Assoc. As in the past, in addition to the opening sessions and the closing sessions, the computer lab was the center of activity as what you learned in one of the break-outs could be explored and perfected in the lab. Friday evening, all boarded busses for a night of eating and fun at the "Rocking R" Ranch. Set up as an old western town, all were entertained by Sweet Mary and her "Rocking R" cowboys. Songs included Rawhide (not performed by the original Blues Brothers) as well as old standard like Ghost Riders in the Sky. Drinks were purchased with McCormick dollars whose photo somewhat resembled the President of McCormick Systems and proclaimed "IN JACK WE TRUST". Conference 99 continued on Saturday with the computer lab open from 9:00am to 3:00pm when McCormicks 19th annual users conference officially closed. T-Bill for Windows The DOS T-Bill was awarded NECAs Contractors Choice award at its annual Convention and Trade Show and has been extremely popular with all size contractors. T-Bill for Windows is based on McCormicks DOS T-Bill program, you will find all of the features that you have grown to expect plus more. Featured in this "Windows" release are: 1) The ability to drill down into an account. TRA-SER hot key Now, you will be able to be in your estimating program and, if you need an item (or group of items) that is not in your base, simply click on one or two icons and you will be in TRA-SER. Then, all you need to do is select the item you want and the program will bring into your estimating program, all the data wished for that item. A new and enhanced feature over the DOS interface, the Windows interface allows you to choose any group of specifications for an item in TRA-SER and then put them into any set of specifications in the McCormick program. This is accomplished through a user-defined "bridging" window that allows for your specific transfer needs. This enhancement is part of the WIN 3-12 and will be part of the Version 6.0 release targeted for later this year. CAD Interface As in its DOS products, use is very easy. With a drawing loaded in the computer, the estimator simply drops into McCormick, chooses an item or assembly that he wishes to count or roll, steps back into the drawing and identifies the symbol he wishes to count or measure. Upon clicking on the choice, all like items are counted. If it is a length, the computer measures all like runs. Look for this enhancement to be released as part of Version 6.0 of the WIN 6-12 line of products. Team McCormick We will report on how we do in a forth coming letter. (what a rush) Citrix Server Connected to about eight computers in the Computer Lab which varied from 486s to P100s McCormicks Windows estimating software ran faster and more affectingly, with all stations being used, than the P400s that were setup stand-alone. The specifications for the server are as follows: 1) HP LH4 Net Server We see this as the answer for many companies needs as this server handles LAN and WAN installations with tremendous speed and dependability and, you dont have to purchase the heavy hardware that we did to run Citrix. This software can be loaded on standard server hardware with certain requirements and you will pickup an amazing increase in speed. McCormick does not sell Citrix or its related hardware however, as we have in the past, will advise you as to what is available and how much you should expect to pay. WWW.McCormickSys.Com Based on input from Conference 99, McCormick plans to expand this site to include technical bulletins, the "top ten" support questions with answers, as well as explore the possibilities of adding a "users bulletin board". Also requested for consideration would be links to contractors using McCormick software. Plans are being made at this time to put this website on our new Citrix server. The entire site has been put onto a CD for those that do not have interned access. Just call the Arizona office. On-line Training and Demos When completed, you will be able to dial into the McCormick website and participate in a "hands on" training session or product demo session. Pre-Conference Classes Actually set up into three groups, forty four persons with three instructors worked in separate groups as well as one large group to improve their estimating skills. I believe it was the Green team that had the best averages on bid day however, I understand that the results are being contested. |
